Donald Trump's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Trump's intense desire for retribution has swiftly evolved into a methodical framework. Within the past year, the president's fury and whims have taken on the guise of government actions in a manner analogous to past repressive regimes. Federal personnel who do not cooperate are summarily dismissed and substituted by loyalists. Critical leaders who question him risk prosecution, judicial process and punishment. Opponents have been designated under administration memoranda as “hostile to national interests”, “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with legal action as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

All case involving targeting of critics and leniency for loyalists demonstrates its own unique qualities. Yet, notwithstanding their specific nature, they represent expressions of what has developed as a systematic approach. Those events are far from isolated. The administration's purge of Department of Justice attorneys and FBI personnel, accompanied by his placement of devotees in high-level positions, commenced swiftly, promptly assumed a regularity, and has now been molded into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the FBI have been transformed into partisan bodies under Trump's clear command to carry out his wishes. Injustice has been rendered standard. It represents the retribution system.

Administration is more concerned with punishing the leader's alleged enemies than they are with defending our country's safety.

Inside the Apparatus

The beginnings of this system has been uncovered in the legal complaint of several ex- top FBI executives filed in the ninth month in the federal court in DC against top official an administration figure and top lawyer a key figure for unlawful firing in “a initiative of revenge against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a failure to show sufficient political loyalty”. The document states that one official, the previous temporary head, details a discussion in which he “freely admitted the unlawfulness of his actions”.

He had tried to protect law enforcement officers from being terminated, the complaint claims. He advised him that “they” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had ordered him to remove everyone who they identified as having worked on a law enforcement case against him. The document goes on: “Patel clarified that he had to fire the personnel his superiors told him to remove, because his ability to retain his own job depended on the dismissal of the personnel who worked on matters involving the leader. He explained that there was no option he or him could do to stop these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI sought to put the chief in prison and he remembers.’” Once Driscoll advised him he was disregarding the agency's own internal rules, he allegedly said “he knew that and he was aware the essence of the summary firings were likely illegal”.

Broad Impact

Since the director's claimed acknowledgment to him, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been dismantled and redirected for his retribution system. Six of the FBI's senior executives were dismissed or compelled to leave in the first days of the administration. Approximately thousands of professional attorneys at DoJ have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. At least several federal prosecutors, including those in the Manhattan division, stepped down in protest over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the legal action against the city leader, a political figure, in exchange for his cooperation with Trump's ICE detentions of immigrants. The public integrity section of DoJ, which handles misconduct investigations, has been cut down to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been devastated: seventy percent of its personnel has departed. 33% of senior leaders at the department have quit. The division implementing conservation statutes has seen departures of 50% its supervisors.

Favors and Sanctions

Regarding the mayor's situation, the interim prosecutor for the southern district of New York, the official, resigned in dissent against what she labeled as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “immigration leader,” showed up as the enforcer with Adams on a media outlet to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in the city.”. And, a former official, previously the senior DoJ official and a former Trump attorney, who brokered the arrangement, was granted an judicial position, a likely springboard to the highest court.

The president's exemption for offenses perpetrated while in government, granted by the unprecedented judgment of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus preventing his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his political viability for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he depends to defend his loyalists. With such immunity, he has been empowered to permit misconduct. The consequence of the judicial ruling saturates his administration and the political party completely. The legal case has escalated. Similar to the former president's legal adviser he commented about the Watergate
